Structure and Mission

1. Evaluation and treatment planning.
2. Counseling for children and/or adults.
3. Parent training.
4. Remediation/self-esteem training.

The first step in treating the child is to do a comprehensive evaluation. From this evaluation recommendations are made for medical intervention, diagnosis, and treatment planning. The treatment plan will serve as the key method of treating the child at the center. The plan contains the behavioral objectives and methods of attaining those objectives with expected outcomes. Parents should be made aware that positive outcomes are attained only with
consistent attendance and should be prepared to be at the center for at least 6 months.

The second step in treating the child is counseling. This may take the form of Play Therapy or some form of cognitive behavior therapy designed for interaction with children. The objectives and expected outcomes are derived from the treatment plane. Counselors will confer with parents as to the progress of the sessions and plans for future sessions. In line with this consultation is the next step which is parent training. A plan of parent education will be designed by the counselors based on interviews with parents about their current parenting methods, to fit the needs of each child and the parent will be asked to follow up during the week based on the results of the counseling process. Unless modified, counseling sessions are weekly.

Remediation training takes place before or after the counseling sessions. This is designed to bring the child back up to par with his peers based on his grade level. The anticipated result is to bring the child’s self-esteem back up and decrease depression and anxiety in the school setting.

Each of the above sections are critical to attaining positive outcomes for the children.
